Pittsburgh's Original Contrast Therapy Community

Every week since January of 2021, TubClub meets to lean into a shared challenge and uplift each other’s spirits. With playful support and serious accountability, the community grew from two friends who were afraid of ice water but loved discovering what humans are capable of. We’ve traveled all over the city and supported thousands of people through their first cold immersions.

We’re on a mission to empower people to build real health skills. In our space, you will learn to relax at will, release anxiety, develop focus, reset your mood, and balance your nervous system. Tyler Butler

Hello, I’m Tyler! I grew up in Mount Washington and have spent my life watching this city transform. For almost a decade, I worked downtown in an office setting and observed in real-time the health decline of my coworkers as they pursued career advancement and more money. I became deeply affected by purposelessness as I didn’t create a meaningful story for my life. With the support of my wife, I quit my job to lean into a purpose driven life.

I found that I love to see others strive to become healthier, stronger, happier humans. My love of transformative human health was born from my struggles. I spent my adolescence and twenties navigating debilitating pain and crippling anxiety. I’ve had multiple reconstructive surgeries that left me unbalanced and prone to back spasms. I felt limited in my ability to honestly connect with others and with myself. It took me years to discover alternatives to pain pills and orthotics.

Through Nervana Health, I am on a mission to bring more awareness of simple and powerful wellness tools to our city. I went to grad school at Pitt to study health program planning and led a research project investigating the power of a hummed exhale on human physiology. Through my community events with TubClub, I experienced how the practiced skill of nervous system regulation improved many areas of my life. Over the last five years, I’ve guided thousands of people to embrace and calm their stress responses to overcome their limitations. Personally, I found that intentionally relaxing while immersed in ice water created profound shifts. My anxiety is at an all-time low, and my chronic pain diminished. I feel more rested after sleeping, and less stressed when I need to speak or perform publicly and privately. I’m more aware of my attention, and my baseline tolerance for discomfort has grown a lot.

I’m trained in joint-strengthening mobility techniques, guided breathing practices, health coaching, and personal strength training. I’ll help you shift yourself away from pain and develop strength, self-regulation skills, balance, and stress management.

Talk to me about your health journey. I love to hear what you’ve discovered and what works for you.

Eric ten Pas

Hi, my name is Eric and I am one of the co-founders of Nervana Health. I am passionate about building community through health and wellness practices. I am particularly fascinated with the human body’s capability to adapt to extreme circumstances and the benefits that come from training the body with deliberate stressors like heat, cold, and movement.

I grew up on a dairy farm in western New York, where I learned early what it means to show up, work hard, and push my body to its limits. At Allegheny College I studied economics and played football, which further deepened my interest in health and human performance. Later, I earned my MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and now work in health insurance, helping to repair a healthcare system that doesn’t always work for real people, and I believe I can make an even bigger impact through the work we’re doing at Nervana Health.

As modern humans, we don’t move nearly enough. Our evolution expects regular movement, and when we don’t get it, it often manifests as anxiety, depression, chronic stress, and a restless mind. Exercise is our modern solution to this movement deficit, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. I’ve found that combining powerful modalities like heat, cold, and mindful movement not only restores balance to the body but profoundly supports mental health. These practices help me feel grounded, clear-headed, and more capable of showing up for my family, friends, and community. I’m driven to share what’s worked for me in hopes of helping others find the same sense of calm and resilience.

Drop me a note anytime, I love talking about this stuff!

Hannah Burns

Hello, hello! I’m Hannah, I grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts with my parents, older brother, and, for much of my childhood, foster siblings in our home. Growing up in a constantly changing household taught me patience, adaptability, empathy, and the importance of communication from an early age. It also created a layer of internal stress that I didn’t fully recognize until much later in life.

That relationship with stress, resilience, and what happens beneath the surface is a big part of what eventually brought me to contrast therapy.

I moved to Pittsburgh in 2020, and in 2023 I found my way to TubClub. Week after week, the ice became a place where I could slow down, breathe, and learn to be present with whatever was happening internally. Through cold exposure, heat, and breathwork, I began to understand that resilience isn’t about never feeling discomfort... it’s about learning that you can move through it.

That experience changed the way I think about health and wellbeing.

I began my career in fitness in 2017 as a junior in college, eventually working in gyms with people of all ages and abilities and building my own online fitness and nutrition coaching business. Today, I coach women through perimenopause and menopause, helping them rebuild strength, energy, confidence, and a sense of connection with their bodies. I’ve always believed that movement and food can be powerful forms of medicine, but my own experience with contrast therapy taught me that stillness, breath, and learning to regulate your nervous system are just as important.

Through both coaching and Nervana, I’ve seen how easy it is to put yourself last — behind work, family, relationships, responsibilities, and everyone else who needs something from you. I believe taking time for yourself isn’t selfish. It gives you the capacity to show up more fully for the people and things that matter most.

That’s what I love about Nervana. It’s not just the sauna, the cold plunge, the breathwork, or the movement. It’s the community that forms around those experiences. It’s a space to challenge yourself, find mental clarity, build resilience, and reconnect with yourself alongside other people doing the same.

I believe there is something incredibly powerful about learning to be selfishly selfless, taking care of yourself so you can better care for the people and community around you.

Mitch Riehle

Mitchell is a compassionate hospice nurse dedicated to providing comfort, presence, and care to patients and families navigating the final stages of life. Previously, he worked as a traveling emergency room nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing resilience and adaptability to high-intensity healthcare environments across the country. Before finding his way into nursing, Mitch spent several years in the business world, where he developed a foundation in leadership, communication, and navigating change.

A certified yoga instructor for more than 10 years and a practitioner for over 20, Mitch believes movement and breath can be powerful pathways into the deeper dimensions of the self, soul, and spirit. His practice eventually led him to another unlikely teacher: ice water. Through cold plunging, he discovered a practice of presence—an opportunity to move beyond the thinking mind, meet discomfort directly, and become fully immersed in the moment.

More recently, Mitch has expanded his practice into bodywork, completing certifications in Thai massage and incorporating its principles of assisted stretching, mindful touch, movement, and breath into his work. He now offers one-on-one bodywork sessions designed to create space in the body, encourage relaxation, and deepen the connection between physical awareness and the inner self.

Across hospice nursing, yoga, cold exposure, and bodywork, a common thread runs through Mitch’s work: learning to be present with life exactly as it is. Whether guiding a yoga class, sitting with a patient, stepping into the cold, or working one-on-one through bodywork, his intention is to create space for people to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and experience the moment more fully.

Peace✌️
